Ardbeg Scorch Committee Release is a special edition single malt Scotch whisky, bottled to celebrate Ardbeg Day 2021. This whisky is inspired by the mythical “flavour breathing dragon” of Islay, and it has been matured in heavily charred American oak ex-bourbon casks. The Committee Release version is bottled at a higher strength of 51.7% ABV, making it a cask strength whisky. This release is known for its intense smoky character and complex flavour profile.
Tasting Note
Nose
The aroma is intense with heavy notes of soot and smoke, complemented by hints of aniseed and patchouli. Classic Ardbeg notes such as fennel and pine are also present, along with a smoky undertone.
Palate
The mouthfeel is oily and spicy, featuring flavors of liquorice, clove, and pepper. There is also a burst of antiseptic lozenges followed by sweet smoky sandalwood. The palate is complex, with layers of grilled fare and black liquorice weaving through the smoky profile.
Finish
The finish is long and strong, characterised by soot and tar after tones, leaving a lasting impression of smoky and tarry flavours.
