The Ardbeg Dark Cove Committee Release is celebrated as the “darkest Ardbeg ever,” a nod to its maturation in heavily charred sherry casks and ex-bourbon barrels. This release was exclusive to Ardbeg Committee members and is bottled at a higher strength of 55%, compared to the standard release at 46.5%.

Tasting Note

Nose

The nose is rich and complex, with an explosion of peaty aromas. Expect notes of bonfire smoke, hickory, soy sauce, and marinated meats. There are also hints of charcoal soot, leather, squid ink, cured salami, tobacco, earthy fungi, and a sherry reduction.

Palate

The palate is big, tarry, and oily. Flavors include smoked mincemeat, dark bitter chocolate, smoked oatmeal stout, salami, inky soy sauce, five spice, sweaty leather, rum-soaked cigars, and earthy mushrooms with a balsamic glaze. The mouthfeel is medium-heavy with a slightly oily texture.

Finish

The finish is long and epic. It features Chinese five spice, sooty/tarry peat, sweet Coca-Cola marinated smoked meat, chewy raisins, aromatic tobacco, dark menthol chocolate, and squid ink in sweet sherry. The finish is rich and lingering, leaving a lasting impression of toffee, coffee, and tar.
