The Ardbeg 1998 Renaissance is a 10-year-old whisky, distilled in 1998 and bottled in 2008. It is known for its rich and complex character, which is a hallmark of Ardbeg’s style. The whisky is non-chill filtered, which means it retains more of its natural oils and flavours, and it is bottled at a higher strength of 55.9% ABV (Alcohol by Volume).
Tasting Note
Appearance
The whisky has a deep golden colour, indicative of its maturation in oak casks.
Nose
On the nose, the Ardbeg 1998 Renaissance offers a powerful and complex aroma. It features intense peat smoke, which is characteristic of Islay whiskies, along with notes of citrus fruits, vanilla, and a hint of sea salt.
Palate
The palate is robust and full-bodied. It delivers a rich combination of flavours, including smoky peat, sweet malt, and a touch of spice. There are also underlying notes of dark chocolate, espresso, and a subtle hint of medicinal iodine.
Finish
The finish is long and warming, with lingering smoky and sweet notes, along with a slight peppery kick.
