The Akkeshi Keichitsu 2023 is the 10th release in the Akkeshi Distillery’s “Twenty-Four Solar Terms Series.” This series is inspired by the traditional Japanese calendar, which divides the year into 24 seasons, each representing different phases of nature and agriculture.
Inspiration: The name “Keichitsu” represents the season when the earth begins to warm, and the first new buds start to bloom, symbolising the awakening of life after winter.
Tasting Note
Nose
Delightful notes of strawberry, chocolate, yuzu citrus, cherries, and vanilla. Fresh, clean, and pure with lemony and salty undertones, and a gentle peat presence.
Palate
Bold yet clean peatiness coupled with hints of sea salt and citrus. Subtle sweetness with flavours of mandarin, honey, black tea, and bittersweet chocolate. The taste is complex, featuring elements like satsuma potato, raisin, salted caramel, and raisin butter, with a spicy white pepper and bittersweet finish.
Finish
Lingering flavours of bittersweet chocolate, white pepper, and a balance of citrus acidity and sweetness. The finish is described as fresh and tidal, with a spicy note.
