The Kanosuke Distillery Exclusive Bottle #002 is a unique and limited release from the Kanosuke Distillery, located in Kagoshima, Japan. This expression is part of the distillery’s exclusive series, showcasing their innovative approach to whisky making and their commitment to quality.
Kanosuke Distillery Exclusive Bottle #002 is crafted from non-peated barleywine distilled in the distillery’s unique three-pot still setup. The whisky is aged for approximately 1.5 years in bourbon barrels and then further matured for two years in Calvados casks, which are barrels previously used to age apple brandy. This dual maturation process imparts a distinctive character to the whisky, combining the rich, sweet notes from the bourbon barrels with the fruity, apple-infused flavours from the Calvados casks. Bottled at cask strength, this whisky offers an intense and unadulterated tasting experience.
Tasting Note
Colour
Golden amber, reflecting its time spent in both bourbon and Calvados casks.
Nose
The aroma is inviting and complex, with notes of vanilla, baked apple, and lemongrass. There are also hints of Japanese nikki cinnamon, adding a spicy and aromatic layer to the nose.
Palate
On the palate, the whisky is fresh and fruity, with flavours of apple and a mild sweetness. The influence of the Calvados casks is evident, providing a unique apple brandy character that complements the underlying maltiness. There are also subtle notes of vanilla and a touch of oak from the bourbon barrels.
Finish
The finish is gentle and lingering, with a pleasant sweetness and a slight bitterness that disappears quickly. The combination of bourbon and Calvados cask maturation leaves a well-rounded and satisfying aftertaste.
